Two important features gone in SL2

Oct 14, 2014

Hi there,

I have noticed that two very handy and often used features have gone in SL2

- After adding a video to a slide and wanting to put some text blocks below it, I always used to drag the red pointer to find the spot I wanted to place the textblock on the timeline. In SL1 the video moved synchronic with the movement of the pointer. When dragging the pointer in SL2 the video remains frozen and doesn't move. And the it becomes very time consuming to narrow down where the textblock should come.

- When you have a lot of triggers and go to the trigger menu SL1 used to have a slider on the right side. In SL2 this slider is missing and you have no other option than to use the scrollwheel on your mouse to move down. Not very fast nor handy.

Anyone else facing the same problems or any suggestions? Please let me know!

Hi John,

In regards to the first issue you mentioned, it's something I've recently shared with our QA team as the playhead on the timeline does seem to move a bit slower (sometimes not a lot at all) while there is a video on a slide. I don't have a status update on this yet, but I'll add this thread to the existing report filed with our team so that when I have any additional updates to share I can post them here.

For the second issue you're describing, I see a scroll bar within the trigger panel to be able to scroll and see the list of triggers there. Could you share an image of what this looks like for you? The common issue of items missing within the  Storyline interface would be using a DPI setting of something other than 96 DPI.

Please let us know if you're able to clarify the second issue or have figured it out with the DPI.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks very much for your feedback. I have re-installed SL2 hoping that the problem with the playhead on the timeline would be solved.

Somehow the slider for the triggers is now visible but the playhead doesn't drag the video. I have made earlier project in SL1 with quit a lot of video's and textblocks that had to be added and it always ran smooth. Now, after importing a video and re-positioning the playhead, the video will sometimes move a few seconds for or back and the blocks. I hope that problem will be solved soon as I had to change back to SL1 for my projects. And I really do like SL2 :-)

John

Hi John,

Glad you got your slider for triggers back - a repair generally fixes elements like that.

In regards to the playhead, I don't yet have any information to share - but you may want to test out the behavior with a few different videos types if you can as well. I used a standard MP4, and the playhead would move the video - but it was noticeably slower than SL1, but still allowed for the functionality in terms of looking at syncing elements to the video.

I'll keep you posted here with any additional information or updates.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your follow up but I tried earlier and found out that the playhead will work when you import small MP4 video's. Mine are between 50 and 100 Mb each and that is were the problem start.

For the time being I'll keep on using SL1 and hopefully wait for the update 2 of SL2 to arrive

Regards,

John
