Receiving the above error when attempting to run the application as as restricted user on both WinXP and Windows 7. I have opened up file and registry permissions to anywhere the app is trying to write to so this should not be an issue. It appears that the application is making some sort of call to verify if you are an Admin or not.
This is an issue in our environment since all users are restricted. I have seen some of the posts asking for a reinstall to resolve this issue but these are brand new installations, and if I login as an admin the application launches just fine with no messages.

Hi Anthony, welcome!
I'm not personally aware of any way around running Articulate software without having admin privileges. You may want to contact our tech team on this one to discuss it with them.
Thanks!
I've been using Storyline constantly for over a year and suddenly I now have this error. I've never had admin privileges, so I'm stumped. Why would the software suddenly change? I haven't updated it recently either (maybe I need to?).
Oh it also asked me to re-activate today.
OK, so this is a known issue when you upgrade to Win 8.1. But...there is no way I can get admin rights on my work computer. Not good. I'm going to try to sweet talk IT into reversing the Win upgrade.
Hi Leslie! Did you see this support article on how to correct this?
Hi again Leslie
I did, but unfortunately I'm on Windows 7, not 8. What is really confusing to me is that Storyline never did this before in over a year of using it, then one day started giving me this error. We've tried reinstalling several times, run the install as admin, and opened Storyline with the 'Run as Admin' option, but I'm still getting the error.
There is no way - AT ALL - that I can be given full local admin rights within my organization. So we're down to last resort, which is to install to another computer that isn't on the corporate network at all, i.e., my personal computer. But that's a sketchy proposition too...
Hi Leslie,
I access Storyline via a virtual desktop which seems to work for me - IT are still responsible for installing/updating the software etc ut this approach means I can access Storyline from any computer with an internet connection enabling me to log on to the network remotely. Perhaps you could ask your IT department if they could set one up for you??
Cheers,
Greg
I am getting this error and I DO have admin privileges. Any ideas...?
Hi Michel,
Are you using Windows 8, 8.1 or a different version?
Also, even with administrative privileges, try right-clicking the Storyline shortcut and selecting "Run as Administrator" if you haven't already.
I am using 8.1, and my problem is with Presenter '13 - I keep getting those windows when PowerPoint is open, and prompts me to re-activate and then re-register. Half the time it tells me the code is invalid, the other half it works. I've had to unload and reload twice so far, and it seems to solve the problem for 24-48 hours, then it comes back.
Hi Michel,
Quick question - is this a personal machine, where you have access to the Administrator account? Or are you using a machine with multiple users/profiles with admin privileges?
If you can access, or get access to the admin account itself, it may help to test on that account.
If not, it may help if your admin can create a new profile and give you access to it for testing. You'll just want to make sure that this account has admin privileges as well.
It is my company and I am the only IT support. The machine is my development machine and the account I am using is the only account and it has admin privileges. I also installed Studio '13 by right clicking on the exe and running it as administrator, just to be sure.
I have done one other thing: I unloaded Carbonite from my system. Carbonite seemed to be locking up files when it backed them up, and I wasn't sure if that was contributing to the problem. I rebooted the machine, and so far the error has not repeated. I'll post if it happens again.

Ahhh - nice catch! Hopefully that will do the trick. If so, it's certainly something I'll be sure to keep in mind if I see this issue again.
Let us know if you run into any problems with this again.
Thanks!
So far it has not repeated. Apparently Carbonite is the problem. You literally cannot run PowerPoint that has Studio '13 running if you use Carbonite. Given that I have just purchased a 3-year account with Carbonite (end of last year), that's not a minor issue for me. :(
Hi Michel,
I'm very happy to hear that it's still going well.
On the Carbonite side - I totally understand. Though it may not be a completely wonderful suggestion, you should be able to enable when not running Studio and disable when it's closed, correct? If so, you could still have it installed, just try not to have it running when using Studio products.
I'm not extremely familiar with Carbonite, but if you could filter programs/content, that may also help.
I'm curious to see if either of those options work for you.
Let me know if you find anything new :)
Thanks!
Just a heads up. I had the same issue today with QuizMaker '13 after upgrading my laptop to Windows 10. QuizMaker would start up, then it would ask me to validate my serial key, I would enter my key which is valid, then the ui_adminvistanotice11 error would come up and the serial key would not validate.
After right-clicking on the shortcut for QuizMaker '13 and selecting "Run as Administrator" I was able to go back through the same scenario outlined above but this time I did not get the error and my software key validated successfully. I only had to do this once. I was able to close QuizMaker and restart it normally (not as admin) and it works fine now.
Hi Nathan,
Sorry you ran into this - but it is documented here that it may happen as a part of upgrading to Windows 10.
Right-clicking on the shortcut for Storyline 2 and selecting "Run as Administrator", then adding serial number allowed the installation without the error message. Restarted the software with no issues...
Glad to here you found that solution helpful, F! Thanks for sharing here.
