Unable to open a course

Hiya

I am having a problem, I have a course called VTE, I am trying to open it (I have been waiting for approval) as the subject specialist has just come back to me with a few minor changes.

I have tried to open this however when I do it is just a blank screen, when I look at the icon properties I know it is definitely there due to size, please see attached.

I have just tried to download an update for Storyline just in case this is the issue and it is coming back with the following error:

The installed version of the application could not be determined.  The setup will now terminate.

Could you advise me as to why this does not seem to be opening?

Hi Clare, 

When you tried to open it previously did it open a blank version of Storyline, or just nothing happened? Based on the image you shared it looks to be saved on your local drive, has a short file path and a file name without any unusual characters which can all cause file corruption. 

Since you've already started to do the update as well, I'd like to have you follow the troubleshooting steps in this article to fix unexpected or erratic behavior in Articulate Storyline. Your Storyline files won't be impacted, but in the event that something occurred during the update this will repair Storyline as whole.

Please let me know how it's going after following those steps above, and if you're still having difficulty I'll want to take a look at your Storyline file to see if I'm able to open it on my end.

Hi Ashley

Yes every time I try to open the project it just opens a blank version, I have looked at the master slides and they are still there which is very strange, this is the second course I have lost in the last few weeks, I never had this problem with Studio 09 but I much prefer working with storyline.  Is this a common problem?  I am just waiting for IT to come back to me (we have limited permissions here!)

Hi Ashley

I have had IT un-install and re-install storyline but this has made no difference, it looks like I have lost a whole package, what can I do to retreave it?

I have opened the empty looking file and clicked save as into my C Drive (my documents) whilst making sure I meet the naming needs but it has not made any difference.  This is so fustrating as I only have a few little changes to make before I can upload this to our LMS.

Hi Clare,

You could also try importing it into a new Storyline project file, that may help resolve any of the issues, but unfortunately if a file has become corrupt there isn't much else to do. In addition to the Storyline file itself, you'll want to check that your audio, images, etc. also are local project files. 

I'm also happy to take a look at your file and see if there is anything else I notice. If you'd like me to take a look at it you can post the .story file here in the forums or I'll send you directions on how to send it to me privately. 

Also, there is a great blog post here on how to back up your project files so that you'd have an earlier version to refer to.
