Could you share the .story file with us so that we could take a look at all your settings and see what does happen when you use that master? You mentioned it as a caption box - but did you insert it as a caption or as a shape?
I've attached the storyline file. It will be horribly out of context I had to remove items but you can see what I'm talking about.
I would like to be able to have my question design on the master, and allow it to adjust its size based on the different level of text in the question.
I've attached the file ( I think)
Right now I'm just manually adding each of the caption blocks on the question slide and adjusting the question block accordingly
Maybe what you want is for text to resize to fit into your allotted space? If so, you can select the text box, click the little icon at the bottom of Drawing Tools > Format > Shape Styles to open the Format Shape dialog, then set the Text Box Autofit setting appropriately.
It looks like Bob has you covered here - and you can adjust the shape to fit the text as right now it's set to shrink the text on overflow, so instead I would change it to resize shape to fit text.
I didn't notice any slides that were using that particular layout to make any updates on your .story file, but if you need further assistance please let us know.
