Using Text Reference for Characters
Apr 15, 2020
I am relatively new to using Articulate Storyline 3 and have taken over a project from someone who left our organization. I'm trying to figure out how to fix the variable reference for the characters in a slide. I'm sending part of the project. Slide 1.4 is the one my predecessor created. Slide 1.2 is the one I duplicated and somehow messed up. The characters names are supposed to show underneath their character (Molly and Jessica). But in the preview, the names are not displaying. I know how to add the variable reference so can start from scratch, by adding a text box and inserting the reference. In slide 1.2 however, there is already a reference. However, I can't figure out how to access the reference as it's not clickable. How do I get into the reference? https://s3.amazonaws.com/tempshare-stage.storyline.articulate.com/sto_1e6032drjtjcgvo1nkb1qgb1ss89/story.html

You are absolutely right. I see the same thing you are describing. If you want to know why, you'll need to come here and attach the .story file
Here it is.
The references are added to the states of the characters, so you have to access them by editing states. As you can see, the variable names in the variable table do not match the ones in the character states.
Walt Hamilton, thank you! I had gone into the states and into "edit states" multiple times, and failed to see that when editing the states, the text box with reference become accessible. And yes, you're right, they were incorrect. I appreciate your speedy response and help!
