Weighted Survey

Hello all!
I'm currently working with Storyline 2. I'm adding an assessment into a course. It's 18 statements with the options/answers Strongly Disagree (point value 1), Disagree (point value 2) , Neutral (point value 3), Agree (point value 4) and Strongly Agree (point value 5). On the results page, I need to show the total point value from statements 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, and 16; the total point value from statements 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, and 17; and total point value from statements 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated including "It can't be done!"

Hi John
if you've got a file started it will be easier for someone to help you with a solution. I think it can be done using triggers and a variable for each statement but to set up a sample would take a while.
Wendy...my hero!!!
Many thanks for a quick response.
A Likert Scale Survey, one questions per slide?
What do you think would be best?

Hi John
responding and attaching files via email doesn't attach the file in the post so would you be able to come in and upload your file using the 'add attachment' button.
Also just a note when you reply via email it attaches all your email signature so if you want to remove that you can do so by editing the post in the forum.
Wendy,
I attached a test file that should give you an idea of what I'm looking to do. 18 statements with the options/answers Strongly Disagree (point value 1), Disagree (point value 2) , Neutral (point value 3), Agree (point value 4) and Strongly Agree (point value 5). On the results page, I need to show the total point value from statements 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, and 16; the total point value from statements 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, and 17; and total point value from statements 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18.
Hi John
if you want the result to be 'graded' and sent to an LMS we'd need to look at another way of doing this. If you just want a score to be presented to the learner using survey slides will work but yes you would need to have one statement per slide.
Let me know which way you need to go and I can mock something up for you
Presented to the learner would be best.
Hi John
rough sample using Pick One slides and customising with radio buttons. I only did the first set of 6 so you could see the setup.
Hope this helps. I'll be out of my office for around an hour so if you have any questions I can get back to you after that.
Wendy,
I can't thank you enough!
John
No worries John - shout out if you have any questions. I'm sure there are other ways of achieving what you want but my motto is 'whatever works' ;-) good luck with your project.
Good morning Wendy!
You're solution worked like a charm. I was able to add additional questions and they all totaled in set_1.
What I'd like to do to finish this is to add a set_2 and a set_3 so questions 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, and 16 will total in set_1, questions 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, and 17 will total in set_2 and questions 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 will total in set_3.
I added a set_2 in the "manage project variables" field and copied the result box and called it set 2. I changed the triggers for q4 and q6 to set_2. Then did the same for set 3.
The same total appears in all three results field but minus the number value for q4 and q6.
I'm sure I'm missing a trigger or a variable somewhere.
Sorry to bother you again . I tried to muscle through it and use the user guides but no luck!
John
Hey John
no worries - can you share the file where you're up to - easier to modify you existing setup.
I'm betting money that it's an easy fix.
Thank you again. I'll be glad to learn this function and can move on to the next.
John
Uuuummmm.....the next project that is. Not the next question for you.
I don't want you to think that I'll be bothering you 10 times a day!
John
Hey John - not a problem. I'm happy to help if I have the time.
Things to check:
Let me know how you go when you've made the changes.
Got it! Made the changes and I'm good to go.
I don't know how to thank you. If you think of a way, let me know!
May I contact you in the future if I've exhausted all other resources?
John
Great news John - glad you're all sorted.
Feel free to use the 'contact me' button if you post on the forum and I don't respond in a timely manner - I'm in Australia so depending where you our timezones might clash.
There are loads of people here in the forum who would be willing and able to help you and by posting on the forum you'll be sharing with other users something that may assist them.
Good luck with your project!
So you're just starting your day and I'm leaving for home shortly. I'm in New Jersey, USA.
Hi Mary!
I showed my team leader what you accomplished and she was very pleased. Thanks again.
Her question is rather than having a very small "EXIT" that you edit in Player Properties to close the course, can we have a big red X?
John
Hi John
glad you scored brownie points with your TL ;-)
You can place a big red X on the final slide but you can't change the words 'EXIT' in the player skin to be the X unless you get into coding and customising the skin using the SL SDK (sofware development kit).
I would recommend leaving the Exit Course on the player and adding the big red X and have the same triggers attached to both.
Hope that helps.
Here is a sample of what I mean. Also some LMS's don't like the Exit course trigger so I've included a javascript trigger you can use if you need to.
Thank you once again!
Have a great day!
John
Thank you for sharing this conversation George and Wendy , I was trying to work out how to write a 'learning styles' questionnaire and think I can use some of this information
So glad that you were able to find what you needed here Chrisie. Thanks for chiming in to share :)
