I've just reinstalled Storyline onto my work computer, and now when I publish courses in HTML5, there's a strange new screen at the beginning with a 'play' button. The course doesn't start until you press this button.
I can't see any controls in the software to make this happen - can anyone explain why it's there?
Modern browsers introduced a security measure requiring that "users" interact with a page before any media can autoplay. Essentially, "interaction" is viewed as "consent". Articulate updated Storyline to analyze your course to look for any media that might require this "user permission" in order to play and adds a "play button" to create that required "moment of interaction".
Thanks Owen. Do you know if there is any way around this? There is no instructional text on the play button screen, and it doesn't fit the branding of whatever course you're making, so it's quite an incongruous thing to see at the beginning of a course.
I think this only happens if the media is on your first slide. That means you can create your own custom course entry screen as your opening slide, just be sure you don't play media on that slide. When the user clicks your "start course" or "enter" button or whatever you have them interact with, jump them to your current opening slide. This satisfies the browser requirement and will prevent the default "play" screen from being added to your course(s).
Luke, my workaround is to place an opening slide that contains no media. This can either be a slide with an image that the learner sees, or just a blank slide with a trigger set to go to next slide immediately.
