What's with the new load screen at the beginning of courses

Nov 05, 2020

Hi there

I've just reinstalled Storyline onto my work computer, and now when I publish courses in HTML5, there's a strange new screen at the beginning with a 'play' button. The course doesn't start until you press this button.

I can't see any controls in the software to make this happen - can anyone explain why it's there?

Thanks

Luke

Modern browsers introduced a security measure requiring that "users" interact with a page before any media can autoplay. Essentially, "interaction" is viewed as "consent". Articulate updated Storyline to analyze your course to look for any media that might require this "user permission" in order to play and adds a "play button" to create that required "moment of interaction".

I think this only happens if the media is on your first slide.
That means you can create your own custom course entry screen as your opening slide, just be sure you don't play media on that slide.
When the user clicks your "start course" or "enter" button or whatever you have them interact with, jump them to your current opening slide. This satisfies the browser requirement and will prevent the default "play" screen from being added to your course(s).
