Where does audio appear in Focus Order

Aug 31, 2023

I'm hoping to learn more about the order of which audio is included in the tab/focus order of slides? Is it played first? last? It does not appear for me in my focus order and want to ensure that I'm doing my best to structure our focus order and have a seamless learning experience for all!

Hi Brittany!

Thanks so much for reaching out. I love that you want to create a seamless experience for your learners. What a thoughtful way to create content! ✨

By default, audio added to a slide in your course will play when the slide starts. Autoplay will cause an overlap between a screen reader and the slide audio. The focus order you define for each slide in Storyline 360 controls the reading order for screen readers and the tab order for interactive elements.

To prevent the audio from autoplaying and display it in the focus order, tie it to an interactive object, like a button with a trigger. You could also add triggers that require the user to press a key to Play/Pause. If you have learners who are hard of hearing, providing a layer with the transcript would be an additional bonus.

Additionally, you can also check out this article, which lists some tips on how to design an accessible course in Storyline 360:

I hope this helps!
