Does anyone know of any software/sites where a discussion forum can be hosted?
We have a forum option within our LMS however it's not the most user-friendly design nor that easy to manage, so wondering if there are any alternatives out there that people have used?
I'm assuming you've already explored the "traditional" forum type software like phpBB, bbpress, BuddyPress/Wordpress so I'll suggest another hosted alternative.
Look at the help/ticket support/community engagement systems- Zendesk, Get Satisfaction, etc. have knowledge bases that serve as the backbone for support type questions (normally used as self help) but because you can open up comments/allow users to create new entries/subscribe or not essentially they can become miniature forums. Actually I think Get Satisfaction now refers to themselves as a customer engagement platform.

Hi Louise
I am also interested in hosting discussion forums outside of our current LMS.
Have you progressed this - I'd be keen for pointers?
Thanks
Lynne
Hi Lynne,
I didn't find any suitable options at the time. Since then we have changed LMS to Moodle and are using the forums within there.
Sorry I can't be of more help!
