Creative Assistance Needed

Aug 10, 2017

Hello All!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I am in need of some creative assistance with developing a competency info-based course. I've attached the power point with images and content that needs to be in there but I'm having difficulty with coming up with ways to incorporate this competency model (graphics) and the text on slides 1-4 into slides that are not text heavy or narration heavy. If you look at the model attached, there's about 7 different "sections" that need to be explained through. As you can imaging, it will be repetitive and boring after a while unless I find a creative solution.

Advice/ recommendations welcome!

Hi Virginia,

Instead of asking yourself "how can I lay out this information on a few slides", I would encourage you to ask yourself "what do the learners need to do with this information?"

Once you determine how they'll use this information in their day-to-day work, it'll be easier to think of a way to present it in a meaningful way. For example, using real-life scenarios.

I hope that's helpful!

Hi, Virginia: Must first thought was "This info isn't suited to an elearning course but more like a reference document." If you have to build a module around it, you might ...

Ask challenge-type questions that learners must reference the doc for. Like, "Daniel is a middle manager (fill in appropriate details here) who is struggling managing his team. Using the X doc as reference, what are a few things he could do to be a better manager"?

In reverse, you could paint a positive situation in which a person is really using one of the competencies, and then ask learners to refer to the doc to see which specific ones they are using.

Why not create a storyline "A Day in the Life of a Leader". Different parts of the day would be represented by one competency. That part of the day might be nothing more than a situation, problem, crisis, etc. that the leader must go through and you can then apply the traits/competences that might be used in that situation.
