I've been using for years SCREENR but I understand it does not exist anymore in order to record Screencasts. I know Artiuclate products have the feature incorporated but would you advise an external tool free that one could you as an alternative?
You could also use either of Articulate's tools Peek or Replay. If you have Articulate 360, you have access to both of these tools. If you have Storyline 2 you may have gotten a version of Articulate Replay along with it. Or you can always download the free 30 day trial of Articulate 360 to use Peek or Replay to do your recordings.
Also, for the record, the screen recording tool within Storyline is pretty powerful and does allow you to create movies you can play on a single slide. Here's a few articles I've written about using the screen recording tool in Storyline, in case they're helpful:
