Urgent help needed with 'test' function for screen recording

Sep 24, 2014

Hey there

Does anyone have any suggestions with the best strategy to use for assessing a user's competency in using a database via an online course?

Im using Storyline (1) and trying to set up a 'test' function of a screen recording where the user has to complete mutliple free text fields. The problem i'm having is that Storyline seems to insist that they have to type the exact same example i used in the screen recording, but I want them to be able to use whatever free text they want without getting them getting marked as 'incorrect'.

Would people suggest I don't use the 'Test' function and just create separate quiz slides for each function i'm assessing them on?

I need to get this course completed on Monday so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks very much

Thanks for responding!

Jerson, I was planning on reporting the results to a results slide,.  My aim is to have this test upfront for people who this was a refresher for, and depending on whether they scored in enough areas they would either be allowed to finish the course there an then or if they didn't pass enough they would be required to complete the full course.

The scoring would be based not on the information they were entering as such (as this is just name, address and some basic details) but the fact that they are clicking into the right fields and navigating to the correct areas of the database.

Ok, I've attached a sample where there are multiple text fields on the screen and the user only has to enter data in three of them (Name, Number, and Date) to get it correct. If they enter any data in the last one (color) they will get it wrong. And it will report to a results slide when you set it up.

The setup

I converted this slide to a freeform pick many. Freeform pick many???  Yes, I'll explain below.

I added 4 sets of buttons of 2 each. Each button set is associated with a text field. You can move them off screen once you get everything set up the way you want them. I like to keep them on screen until I get everything right for testing.

The pick many quiz part points to these buttons. If buttons 1-4 are in the selected state, the user is correct. If any of them are not in the selected state, then they get it wrong. Right now buttons 5-7 are in the selected state (wrong).

When the user clicks submit, it will execute triggers to check if the textfields have something in them. If it does, then it changes the state of the associated button to selected (all except text field Color). Example  If a user puts something in the Name field and presses submit, it will change the state of button 1 to selected, it will do the same for the rest of the text fields. If the user places something inside and then erases it they will still get it wrong because it is blank.

If you make changes or add more text fields, make sure that the submit interaction trigger is last to be executed. If you still need help just PM me.

HI there

Ive been trying to replicate what you're saying and what you had on your example, ive created the variables for the text entry field on the slide and yet when i go to add theplayer trigger for the 'change state of 'textbox' to 'selected', for some reason the text entry box will nto show up as an option in the object list.  Ive tried deleting the box and inserting a new one but again it doesn't show?  It shows if i insert a normal text box but i need a data entry one like you had in your example.

AM i missing something obvious?  Ive attached the screen shot image so you can see

Thanks for your help
