Web Camera Recommendations

Oct 25, 2011

This is less of an "e-learning" questions and more of a "blended course" issue. We are looking to create implement sessions via Webex that will include PowerPoint and possibly a live feed of the instructor for part of the presentation, and my questions is, does anyone have any recommendations with regards to web cameras that will work in this situation? It would be used to provide a more personal touch at times, allowing the viewers to see the instructor, but could also be used to allow students to see something written on a whiteboard in the room. I have been researching cameras, but there are SO MANY!! Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks!

Chris, there really area a lot of cameras.  Its tough to recommend only a camera without knowing other info.  The processing power of your computer might come into play.  How much RAM you have.  What type of video card you have.  Your best bet is to go into a store (Best Buy, Staples, etc.) where they have different ones set up for you to try to see what each of them does according to the specs that they have.  You can get some cameras fairly cheaply, $20 or so.  But, the frame rate is lower and the video is choppy.  What is the vid resolution like? 1280x720?  There are a lot of nice Logitech products but again, you should probably check it out in a store for yourself so you can see exactly what you are getting.
