Importing Guides from other project

Apr 15, 2024

Hi,

I have created a Storyline template from a SL file. In the files I created guides to have a consistent layout. However, the guides do not transfer when I insert a new slide from that template. Only if I start a new project by opening the template file itself, the guides transfer over.

Is there another way? Can I import guides from another file or copy paste them somehow?

Hi Niels!

Sorry to hear the Guides are missing from your Storyline slides!

Just to clarify, is there a chance that they were moved off of your viewing window? If so, try zooming out with the scale on the bottom right, when in slide view, and see if you can tell where the guideline moved to, then position it back into your viewing window.

If that doesn't do the trick, you can create new guides by enabling the ruler using the View tab. Then double-click on the ruler where you would like your guide line to appear, and it will add a new one. Also, this article outlines other methods for creating new guidelines.

Please let me know if that worked for you!

Hi Steven,

The guides did not disappear, I have the standard 4 guides, but not the ones I created when I built the template. Only when I open the template as a new SL file, the guides are added. When I create a brand new file from scratch and insert a slide from the template, the guides are not imported. That's the issue.

I can recreate them of course, but it's tedious work for every slide, time consuming.

Hi Niels,

Happy to help!

The import function only imports slide objects and elements. These don't include the line guides which exist only in edit more and aren't part of the slide contents.

We recommend sharing your thoughts on including line guides in the import process with our product team through a feature request so they'll know that users are interested in this enhancement!
