One I would add is not to forget checking your timeline.
Last week I had a 'closed caption' type variable that changed at various cue points. When it didn't appear as expected at the first cue point (but did at the second cue point) I checked the variable trigger but everything looked fine. In frustration I spent about 45 minutes redoing the slide.
Then I realised I hadn't checked the timeline ... and behold there was the answer ... the variable start had been moved after the first cue point (probably due to cutting and pasting incorrectly).
So don't forget the timeline for timing issues.
