For tracking variable assignments, I always add a special debug layer to a complex slide and list all %variables% out. I can then watch a value as it is assigned or updated. I simply hide the layer before publishing.
- PeteRichardson8 years agoCommunity MemberWhen debugging variables, I often put them on the slide master in a commonly blank area. This lets me see the variables no matter which slide I'm on.
- JeffreyRiley8 years agoCommunity MemberI like the idea of putting the variable names on a layer and then watch as they update or not. I normally try to put them on an open area of the slide one at a time. Putting them all on a layer makes clean up faster.
Great idea. - NicoleLegault18 years agoCommunity MemberGreat idea, John! So do you also add a trigger to the Base Layer to "Display Debug Layer when the timeline starts".. or do you use some other trigger to display the debug layer?
- JohnEckhart8 years agoCommunity MemberI add a button to the base layer that shows or hides the debug layer. Sometimes I have multiple debug layers when building a particularly complex simulation, so I may have an additional button on each debug layer to cycle through different views as needed. The primary debug/hide button exposes the debug layers. When I publish the content I just change the state of this primary debug/hide button to 'hidden'.
