An umbrella term covering a range of theories, learning styles refers to the idea that each person learns best in a particular way—for example, by looking at visuals, listening to audio, etc. According to this theory, by identifying someone’s style and accommodating for it, you can make learning new information or skills easier.
Unfortunately, this popular concept has not held up when studied. While people might have personal preferences about what format they most enjoy learning from, designing learning around those preferences doesn’t improve results. A more effective approach is to adapt your learning experience to what works best for the content you’re conveying.
