Thanks Allison. I've felt that we need to use more relaxed language in the programs we produce for a mighty long time. Sadly, I often find that I'm fighting an uphill battle over the topic, especially when dealing with folks who don't get what makes language accessible.
Sadly, many of those folks are the same people who'll dismiss research that backs up the argument in favor of casual copy.

- AllisonLaMotte10 years agoStaffYou could try creating 2 versions of a mini-course: one with formal and one with informal language and test them out on two groups of learners. At the end you could compare their scores and/or get them to fill out a satisfaction survey. Maybe that could help convince them? Just an idea!

I have a mini-session I'm about to start, so maybe I can get some data here. I even have a large enough audience that I should be able to get some statistically significant results.
