So sorry you weren’t able to find the clues. There are 3 clues on post-it notes (stuck up on the cabinets in the middle of the kitchen) that tell you what to do, and the recipe pops up when you click on that - located in the same area.
I created this for an “escape room” challenge that relies on hunting for clues, so that’s the idea behind the design.

The 3 ingredients that require substitutions have corresponding post-it notes to click on that explain what to substitute, and the red food coloring is one of them.
The substitution for that one is beet juice. So if you grab the red beet on the counter, “juice” it by dragging it over the juicer, then drop it in the bowl, you’ll be on your way to red velvet cake.

- Hello Jackie, I love this, but for some reason I can't make the Buttermilk and eggs! I keep trying to use the water, put the ingredients elsewhere, and keep stuffing up the recipe! It's driving me insane haha. I'm obviously hopeless at escape rooms!

I’m so sorry to hear that making this cake is anything less than enjoyable! I’m awful at figuring out escape room games, so completely understand your frustration. :)
Each item is labeled if you tap or click on it. The ground flax seeds on the shelf need to be dragged over the measuring cup of water before being dropped in the bowl (as the egg substitute) and the yogurt in the refrigerator needs to be dragged over the water and dropped in the bowl in the same way as a substitute for buttermilk.
