  • Sarah I have been practicing with the information you gave us yesterday on creating a video in PPT and exporting it to Storyline. At one point you had us to copy the screen in PPT and save it as an image for later use. Would we need this in order to put the picture on top of the video in Storyline? I added a hover state to my images picture above my 3D images but they are not moving. On your SL timeline you have picture images listed and I only have the movie listed, can you help?

Hi Tiffany! I only use the image to help align any text that will be over the video since the exported video doesn't show the end result without playing the video. Once I've aligned the text, I delete the image, leaving only the video visible in Storyline. Hope that helps!

Hi Anthony! This course was designed for the desktop. I've tested it briefly on the iPad and phone and it didn't play as fluidly. I wish I had more time to make it work just right on those devices. In another forum, I've recommended that people view it on a desktop in the Chrome browser for the best experience.

This is amazing! I wish there was a tutorial on how to create all of the effects.

Genius! Loved every moment. Can you make one for lions? We don't have bears in the wild here in South Africa. Great Job Sarah.

Thank you, Heidi! Ah! Lions! I love the idea. That would be fun to create. :)

Hi, Sarah! The post about your new position in the Articulate Community brought me here. Congratulations - it is very well deserved, and based on the work I have seen of yours, they are lucky to have you.

I wasn't able to find that any previous comments had specifically asked about the rising mist effect in the opening slide of this course - which is super awesome (the effect, that is - not the fact that nobody had mentioned it, hehe)! Any hints on how you created that?

Hi, Matthew! That first initial screen with the trees and the stream is a video I found in Content Library 360. There’s a subtle mist effect in the video which inspired me to add my own mist on top of that to slowly introduce the title screen. In Photoshop, I used custom fog brushes over a transparent background and saved as a PNG. I then inserted the fog PNG into my Storyline project, duplicated it multiple times to cover different parts of the slide, resized to my liking, and added motion paths to slowly reveal the title screen with the video.

Thank you for the kind words! I feel very lucky to work with such great people and be a part of this awesome community! 😊

Awesome - thanks for the tips and the swift reply! Gonna have to head over and browse available videos in the Content Library. Have left that resource completely untapped until now.
  • Sarah, I love this course. I have used it as an example for multiple courses I am creating in Storyline 360. I have a quick question. when you finish all 3 sections and come back to the page with the 3 choices (that shows I have completed all 3 sections and a continue arrow), how do you get that layer to show? Is it a finished layer or a state change. I have a course that has one page that branches to 4 other scenes. As soon as I click on the 4th button, the finished layer shows up for a split second before the 4th scene appears. Its like it is trying to change the state of the button and go to the scene at the same time, but shows the state change first (even though it is after the jump trigger). How can I fix this because I noticed there isn't a delay in your course.

When I encounter this issue (not uncommon) I end up duplicating a layer without the issue -- say, layer 3 - and then renaming it to layer 4, and then overwriting it with layer 4 info. Just a workaround. I do see occasional glitches on states/layers that have been unexplainable so I just rework it.
  • I laughed every time I died! It was so much fun! I went through it several times and I now know I need to get some good old bear spray and leave the bacon at home!
  • Wow! I LOVED this! What a stellar example of learning engagement. Thanks so much for sharing it.
