Portfolio Tip #1:
Don't let vanity prevent you from getting started. In other words, never wait to post your work because you think it's not good enough. When I first got started, I held off on putting anything public because I didn't think it measured up to the level of those I admired. So instead, post what you have today regardless of where you are in your career. You can always swap your old work for new examples as you create them.
Portfolio Tip #2:
Are you using WordPress? Then make sure to delete unused themes and plugins. The same goes for unsupported themes. If the developer stops updating or supporting their theme, it's time to trade it in for a new one. Using outdated themes and plugins makes your site vulnerable to malware and exploits. And if you're in this for the long haul, pay the extra money for "managed WordPress hosting" that offers daily backups and malware scanning. I learned this lesson the hard way.

- SaraMatherne4 years agoCommunity MemberI love the first tip! I really suffer from imposter syndrome, and I tend to devalue what I know and what I can do. Yes, I'm new at this, but I also didn't know half of what I know now this time time last year!
- Jonathan_Hill4 years agoSuper HeroSuch a great portfolio and these are valuable tips too. I use WordPress and Elementor Pro and theme updates have caught me out in the past.
A website is like a rose garden. Only looks pretty if you maintain it, otherwise things can get thorny.- Montsea4 years agoSuper HeroWebsites are like gardens. One of the plugins got hijacked and sent users to some crazy
"thorny" sites.
- JoannaKurpiewsk4 years agoCommunity MemberI love your portfolio, Montse.
It's nicely organised: a thumbnail and a short info about the project. You keep that pattern across different pages on your website so consistency is adding to good viewer experience.- Montsea4 years agoSuper HeroThanks, Joanna! This is a recent update for me. I haven't used WordPress much in the past five years. Most of my demos were posted to single-page html templates since it was faster to work with.
I don't know how others find the time to keep up their sites.
- AngelaWalsh-d0a4 years agoCommunity MemberFabulous portfolio! Really clean design and easy navigation. I like that you have showcased a variety of different learning experiences. I'm actually working on setting up a WordPress site right now so those tips are really helpful!
- Montsea4 years agoSuper HeroThank you, Angela. WordPress is now a lot easier to use with their blocks. If you've ever used Rise 360, then you'll find WP has a familiar feel and workflow. If you ever have questions, feel free to ask. I'm by no means a pro but I'm good at clicking and finding solutions lol!
