I was thinking, when might you want to ensure your menu takes up as little real estate as possible? Probably if you are showcasing a photography portfolio and want the images to be all that is viewed.
With that in mind, I programmed a photo portfolio with a sleek pop-out menu, and navigation buttons that are practically see through to avoid them taking away from the images.

Nice one Kayla.
Really like the clean layout .
A real shame storyline doesn't make the default layout cleaner. I always spend a long time making areas transparent before publishing.
