Hi Kate,
What if you add the same triggers that are assigned to the menu button to the menu item before the trigger that jumps to the destination of your menu option? That is the 'toggle variable ...' and 'Hide layer ... ' triggers.
Does that make sense?

Hi Jeroen thanks for your suggestion - tried changing using the same trigger on the menu item - however the condition is when the use clicks - I want the it to be automatic, rather than the user having to click to close - so I used the option: hide layer when the timeline starts - but this stops the menu opening at all -

Isn't the user clicking the menu item anyway, to select that topic?
I tried it and for me it worked. Did you add the triggers before the jump trigger?
