If you want to add depth and perspective to your slides quickly, this technique is a great place to start. The floor, wall, baseboard technique uses three simple elements to give your slides a three-dimensional look, making your content feel like it’s set in an open room.

Here's how it works:

  1. Start with the floor: Use the bottom part of your slide as the foundation. A solid color or a gentle gradient works well here to anchor your content.
  2. Next, create the wall: This is the main area in the center of your slide where you’ll place your key content like text, images, or charts. Choose a clean background—solid color, texture, or pattern—that supports your design and keeps everything easy to read.
  3. Add the baseboard: Drop a rectangle over the floor and wall areas. Use a contrasting color, texture, or pattern to create a clear horizon line. This is your baseboard and it adds visual and helps separate the two main sections of your slide.
