Mysteries of Mesa Verde: Ask the Park Ranger
I wasn't going to participate this week because I'm on vacation on a little road trip. Last Friday (3.13.26) we went to Mesa Verde, the historical site in Cortez, Colorado. At the visitor center I asked the Ranger what we should see in the park, and I kiddingly asked him if he gets tired of answering the same questions all the time. Later in the day, at our hotel, I noticed a wall decoration that looked like five-panel accordion of Mesa Verde.
When I got to my room I looked at the challenge topic and thought I had received signals from beyond to do a Mesa Verde FAQs demo. :)
I started making the accordion with five photo panels, just like the hotel lobby, but in the end I felt the accordion didn't pay tribute to the site enough, and I just focused on a simple accordion. Most of the photos are mine--but it is impossible to do justice to this place.

This natural setting inevitably reminds me of certain scenes from Tony Hillerman’s books (I’m a huge fan). I know it’s not the same place, the same region, or the same people who lived there long ago. But this is exactly how I pictured it when the Navajo police officers investigate these ruins in search of artefact looters. It makes me want to re-read a book or two.
Larry’s right: let it go when you’re on holiday.😀
