Add scrolling bar to seleced state

Generally, if you want to add some interaction to a state, it works best to add it to the object first, then copy the object, edit the state, and paste the copied object onto the state.

See the attached sample.

Also it may be easier to have a masking shape above your scrolling text shape.  I would avoid using states unless you have a reason for wanting their functionality.

I was able to use the first idea: add it to the main object, and then copy-and-paste it to the state I chose. 

This is just my own ignorance, but I don't understand the idea of using a masking shape above the scrolling text rectangle. How would that work/help? 

I thought I would use layers at first, but there are 6 separate items on the main slide each with its own states. If I used layers, I'd just go crazy with the number of triggers I'd have to use. 

But if there is a way to eliminate using states, I'd love to learn more.

If your chart means what I think it does, there is one correction. Objects that are hidden are subject to triggers. In the sample (which also shows a text box with a scrollbar on its selected state), note the rectangle can be made visible by clicking the Click me text box, even multiple times. While the timeline hides, shows, then hides the rectangle, clicking on the text box will change its state to Normal either before the timeline makes it visible, or after it hides it again.  It will also change it to any other state. (Click the Change me box). It will move on a motion path, too. (Click Move me.) It will change state or move whether it is hidden or not.

If you use the upgraded text then a scroll bar will automatically be added to the textbox in selected.

Thaddeus and Walt, thank you so much for the feedback. I think I understand what you are saying, but I'll have to investigate a bit more when I have more time.  

Phil, thank you for the feedback. I don't see where the scrollbar gets automatically added, but you referenced using upgraded text. What's that, please? How does it get the scrollbar to automatically appear?

If you open the format tab whilst on a textbox you can update the text in (SL360) this will then allow you to add scrolling text.

I am in the selected state right now, I created a textbox, and I opened the format tab.  I don't see how to add scrolling text, but I'll keep at it and figure it out.
