Adding a Pause Button to the Player
Hi Everyone,
I am still creating my first storyline presentation - a software simulation with mouse movements, etc., and want to give the user an option to pause the presentation if he/she needs to review a screenshot, etc., but the Player button only includes Next and Previous.
There is NO audio in this video..only annotated screenshots, so the need to pause audio is NOT a concern.
I know I can add layers to each slide and trigger each slide to its designated layer, but that would take forever. Is there an EASY way to do this? Are there free download Player templates that might include the Pause/Play option?
Thanks for your help!
Peggy

Hi Margaret, welcome to Heroes.
In the Player Properties, select the 'Seekbar' option. This will give you a Pause button.

Wow, that was easy. Please excuse my newbie ignorance! Thanks so much!

Hahaha, no excuse needed. Glad to help
Glad Brian was able to help your here Margaret - and I did also want to point out this article on how to pause the timeline of a slide. As a proclaimed newbie, I thought it may help to see that with Storyline there is typically more than one way to accomplish it. :-)

HI Again,
Thanks for all your help in getting the player loaded so we'd have Pause, Next, etc., added in the Player. Now I have just two more questions:
1. The "Previous" button does not always work. It pretty much works when it wants to with no rhyme or reason. Any idea why?
2. The "Time" function in the player keeps scrolling across at the bottom of the screen, but the presentation I created is NOT intended to be timed. It only acts as a distraction making the user feel like he/she had better hurry up in case time runs out.
All assistance is welcome! I am learning lots and might not be a newbie by the time this presentation is complete!
Hi Margaret,
1. Without seeing the set up it's difficult to say. What have you set for the navigation within the player menu? If you're using locked the user can't navigate back to slides that they've previously seen. You'd want to use free or restricted navigation. Also perhaps you've modified the trigger for the previous button (it's built in to go to the last slide the user saw, much like a browser back button) so although it's not visible immediately if you added a trigger to it that could be interfering.
2. The seekbar "time" element is based on the overall slides timeline. Unfortunately if you need the play/pause button then you'll have to have the seekbar as well. Depending on what is on your slides you could set the timeline to be very short or very long so that it's less distracting or seen as a way to clock how long they're in the course?

Hi Ashley,
I have found the solution of removing play and pause button with the seekbar.

Reena
Glad that's a solution that'll work for you Reena!
