Adding MP4 File to slide - Plays when building, White screen when preview or publish

I've been out for a bit and came back to work.  My leaders tried creating a short intro slide, slide with mp4 file, then test questions.

It seems the video plays when building the course after adding the file.  When you preview the course it does not play.  I published the course and tested in the LMS and we still get white screen and no video.

We've added videos like this before and never had an issue and now it seems to be a problem.  Any suggestions?

  • Hi Scott,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I was able to replicate the behavior on my end as well. It looks like the issue is isolated to the video in your slide, because replacing your video with a different one allowed the video to play without any issues. Here's a sample link for your reference.

I then used a tool called Handbrake to re-encode your video, and this seems to have corrected the behavior indicating the the issue was with how your video was encoded. Here's another link to your course with a re-encoded version of your video, where I can confirm that it plays properly. Try re-encoding the video on your end, and let me know if this works for you!

Thank you Joe.  I'll try getting handbrake but also speak to some of our partners who record their own video.  Since it is something with the encoding and the video they make, it might be something they can fix.

  • you can see the problem in the Media Library - the length is 0:00:00 seconds

your video is a very stange "iso6"-container video format

which cannot be read by storyline - but why no error message while import ?
