Can you make a volume control button in a mobile or tablet view?

I'm a bit shocked that a volume control button is not available on a mobile device player.  Is it possible to make a button that will control volume on a mobile device?

Any information/assistance on this would be VERY appreciated.  I'm working on a project that must be mobile-friendly.
