Convert to Freeform - New Workflow?

Up until these last few updates, I thought I was kinda OK at Storyline.  Recently I have noticed that the CONVERT to Freeform option has been replaced by Freeform Quizzing.

In the past, I would set up the slide then use Convert to Freeform to add quizzing functionality.  I have tried to use Freeform Quizzing functionality (meaning that I select the question type first then create the slide), but I can't get any of my functionality to register.

For instance, I want the answer option (simple shape) to change color (state) when selected and me marked correct.  However, when I preview the slide, it doesn't register that the shape has been clicked.

Can someone help me with best practices for the new workflow?  Should I build the interaction "from scratch" now?  It seems that these updates have introduced a lot more work or "broken" things that worked in the past.
