Thanks, folks. I must have had my brain in reverse yesterday. I looked back on my previous efforts and indeed, I had been monitoring the SELECTED/NOT SELECTED states. Overly tired and stressed I guess.
I think that was a moment of panic! Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
