Drag and Drop: Resetting answer choices when clicking try again
Hello Vanessa,
I'm sorry for the trouble regarding the drag-and-drop interaction. Unfortunately, what you're experiencing, where the drag items are not returning to their starting point after clicking the "Try again" button, is a known bug. Our product team is already aware of the issue, and we'll let you know when a fix is available.
Kelsey's workaround works for their use case. But if your drag items are set to show one at a time, it may not be applicable, as you have confirmed. I recommend the following workaround in this case:
- Change the slide property of the drag-and-drop base layer from 'When revisiting' to 'Reset to initial state.'
- Create a trigger in the Try Again layer to "Jump to slide - This slide."
I have prepared the attached sample Storyline course to illustrate this workaround. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have additional questions.
Hi Eric,
Your recommended option only works with the drag-and-drop interactions that show all at once. For the drag-and-drop interactions that show options one at a time, there is a constant loop of trying again, even if the Attempts are set to a certain number. Do you have a workaround for this use case?

yep that is my question even if I limit the attempts to 2 the try again is endless.

Hello ChristinaTran-d and MohanK-654c17c4,
Happy to help!
I've attached a simple project file that has a drag-and-drop interaction with the following settings:
- Limited to 2 user attempts
- Items are set to appear one at a time
Everything appears to work as expected in my test, so I'd like to check what's different between your interaction and mine. Would you mind comparing my file to how you set up your drag-and-drop interactions? You can also share a copy of your project file here or privately by opening a support case so we can check why the attempts are unlimited. We'll delete it when we're done testing!

Thank you for this example JoseTansengco . Your example does not, however, reset the objects back to their original position. Are you able to create an example that does that? Thank you!

Hi, seismannphc!
I'm happy to help. To reset the objects back to their original position, select the Design tab on the top ribbon and open Drag & Drop Options. Next, select the box labeled, Return item to start point if dropped outside, and choose an option from the drop-down menu. I've updated Jose's file with this option selected. Please let me know if you have any questions!
