I’m sorry to hear that Storyline 360 is crashing and that you’re losing your recent changes.
Let’s start with a fresh installation of Storyline 360 to ensure the app is running smoothly.
For the .tmp file, you can safely rename it to a .story file after copying it to your desktop or Documents folder. That won’t cause corruption and may help you recover your latest work.
Regarding autosave, it should generally protect your progress. File corruption is unpredictable. To help prevent this in the future, here are some helpful tips on reducing the risk of project corruption.
