Is there a way to turn off font size auto adjustment?

Hi I'm new to this software and need help with this:

When I cut and paste text from Word onto Storyline text boxes, the font size self-adjusts to fit into the box. It stays this size despite my setting the font to my desired size. I end up having slides with variations of text sizes even though the font size setting box shows the same size number. How can I undo this?

  • Hi Jasmine,

Right click on the text box and open properties (I think that's what it's called - I don't have Storyline open right now). Go to the text box tab and the middle section will have 3 options - do not autofit, autofit text, or autofit textbox.

    Thanks so much, Allison!

Is there anyway (if so, how) I can set one of those 3 options as a default for all text boxes?

Jasmine, that's a great question. I would also like to be able to turn off all "autofit" and just control font sizing myself. This makes it easier to keep all the fonts consistent. Global settings like this should be in the main Storyline Options box for each projects, but there is very little there. Allison's method of changing the default on each each box may work but that is so much extra work. Looks like a good idea for a feature request,

@ Michael I agree.  I just opened up a project I had saved two months ago.  I had gone back into it and my font sizes defaulted back to Articulate 10.  It happens in my other SL projects as well.  I am wondering why.  I will review this option.

    This might help:

    1. format your textbox as needed (font, color, autofit options, etc.)

    2. Right-click the formatted text box and select Set As Default Text Box.

    3. Any new text box should have that standard applied.

  • Thank you for these tips. This should be added as a setting in a "preferences" (global settings) area for the whole application, I believe. That;s one element I miss from Captivate; gives you global control over setting like these.

Agree with Steven. Global setting would be much better than having to set default. But set default sounds like a useful workaround.

  • Does anyone know if this feature to set a text box as default has survived into Storyline 360?  I followed the suggestion above but that does not appear in the text box menu any more.

  • Hello Jay!

This isn't a feature that has made it on our roadmap yet. We are currently prioritizing other features for upcoming releases, but we have logged the ability to set a text box as default as a feature request! I've included your comments on our current report. We'll let you know if our team reroutes.

These are the features we are currently working on!

I would strongly support this change, both for 360 and SL3.
