Issues with a slide: how to deal with overlapping areas?

Thanks for thinking along!
I tried what you describe and it works in preventing overlapping areas, but I can't use it, because I can't group the hotspots with the other objects, and I need that because all objects need to move to the left.
Storyline has so many quirks and limitations that it almost become impossible to work with. So for the negativity, but it gets me down at moments.
Do you see/have another solution that might work?
