Keep Slides in Slide Tabs

In previous Storyline versions, slides would remain on the slide tab bar (immediately under a control ribbon - see attached). Now they disappear. How can I keep slides on this tab bar, so that I can maintain quick and easy access?

  • Hi John, and thanks for reaching out!

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue! I'm unable to replicate this on my end, but I'm happy to help troubleshoot.

    • Have you tried repairing Storyline?
      • If this doesn't do the trick, please share a screen recording, or your project file so we can investigate further, You can upload your project here, or privately in a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.

    I hope this helps!

      Thanks Kelly,

Yep: That funny noise the car makes so often goes away as soon as your mechanic takes a look at it.

How do I submit a support case so that I can upload this privately? I have taken a video of it happening.

  • Hi, John!

I've opened a support case on your behalf so you can upload the video for our Support Engineers to take a look. If you'd like to open a support case in the future, you can use this link!

  • John,

I can't see the video, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

If you are viewing Story View, and double-click a thumbnail, you will be moved to slide view, with that slide open in a new slide tab, and all the previous tabs retained.

On the other hand, if you are viewing a slide and click a thumbnail in the Story View pane, the slide you are viewing is closed, and the new one opened. If that is what you mean by tabs disappearing, the answer to keeping all the tabs open is to go to Story View, and double click when you want to add a new tab with a different slide.

If that is not the problem, attach the video here, and maybe someone can help you.

      Walt,
Thanks for your quick response. And please accept my apologies for not attaching the video to my earlier communication: I clicked too soon.

After the fact here, it may be easier for you if I provide it through Vimeo: Please click https://vimeo.com/792305758

Or let me know how you would prefer that I provide the video to you.

I look forward to learning what you think after seeing the video. If it's operator error, I am eager to learn.

  • I tested this on a project that I have, and got exactly the same result you did. It seems to happen if the deleted slide is on a tab, with 2, 3, or 4 tabs to the right of it. The other tab is closed, but the slide is unaffected. It only happens if the tabs to the right are from a different scene (like your library slides are.)

You definitely need to see if Support can help you. In the meantime, it doesn't seem to happen if you go to Slide View to delete the slide. A clumsy workflow, I agree, but until it gets fixed, or support better identifies what is happening...

  • Thanks Walt,

I appreciate your work-around. Renato Tecson, at Articulate, has gotten back to me and opened Case #03519680: Keep Slides in Slide Tabs. Whether this is resolved within our lifetimes is open to the priorities of the code wizards at Articulate.

At worst it's an inconvenient annoyance, and not stopping anything, but the time lost builds up after so many slides.
