Language Selection Landing Page

When I use localization and have 1 course with multiple languages, the learner is taken to a language selection landing page. Is there a way for the learner to return to this page if they already started the course? For instance, I choose English and go into the course, but I wanted to view it in Spanish. I tried a restart trigger, but this only takes me to the first slide in the chosen language.

  • Hi BLearning1,

    Great question!

For multi-language Storyline packages, learners see the language selector window the first time they launch the course in the LMS. After they choose a language and click continue, that selection is stored by the LMS "suspend data".

The only way to switch languages mid-session is by:

    1. Fully closing out of the LMS session window within the LMS.
    2. Relaunch the course in the LMS.
    3. When prompted by the Storyline Player to Resume or Restart, choose Restart.
    4. Selecting Restart will bring the learner back to the initial language selection screen, where they can choose a different language.

Please keep in mind that choosing Restart will also reset any previously saved progress stored by the LMS suspend data. While this method does allow learners to switch languages, it also means they would lose earlier progress on content they've already completed.

At this time, Storyline doesn't support returning to the language selection screen mid-session without restarting the course and learner progress. I understand why some authors would prefer this level of functionality, and I've shared your feedback directly with our product team!

As a workaround, I suggest publishing separate language-specific versions of the course as individual LMS items. This way, learners can access each language independently without affecting their progress in another version.

Please let me know if you need anything else!
