Legal Use of Articulate Storyline 360’s Content Library and Character Assets

Hi everyone,

I would just like to clarify the legal use of its built-in Content Library, including character assets and stock images. Specifically:

  1. Can these assets be used for commercial projects (e.g., client work, paid courses, corporate training)?
  2. Are there any copyright restrictions or licensing limitations I should be aware of?
  3. Is there any risk of legal issues when using these assets in external-facing content?

I’d appreciate any insights or official documentation references that can help ensure compliance. Thanks in advance!

  • Here's what I think is the gist of the matter from the FAQ: "you can't use assets outside of Articulate 360 apps." In other words, you can use the content in client work, paid courses, corporate training, etc. But it has to be presented via a Storyline or Rise course. You can't put it in your PowerPoints, brochures, etc.

Here's the relevant text from the Terms of Service:

Thanks for the information - it's very useful.  I'm now wondering whether I can take a screenshot of my Rise materials that include an image from the content library and show this in PowerPoint presentations or other materials to advertise or talk about my Rise materials?

As I understand the TOS, screenshots that include images from the content library should not be used in PPTs or other materials, because that would be using the content in non-Articulate apps.

Instead, you could use links to the Rise courses in Review 360. Or perhaps create a separate Rise course that includes just the parts you want to show.

Thanks, Judy.  It does seem that way though you would think they would be pleased to have their product with attractive images included showcased in presentations.  I can always source images from elsewhere to add to relevant pages in Rise for such a presentation however.
