Linking an Articulate Storyline module on the LMS with an external HR portal -

When a user clicks a link in the module, they should be taken to the HR portal to complete a task. Once the task is done, the system should mark it as "Complete" and then send the user back to the LMS. After returning, the user should be able to finish the rest of the module. Please suggest the possible methods.

  • BhumijaSaxena this is a bit of a broad request. The functionality you are requiring information on will be very specific to the LMS and HR systems you are using and will require people knowledgeable about those systems to advise you. You question is missing a lot of detail making it difficult to point you in the right direction for the answer.

To get a better answer or more chance of at least being pointed in the right direction:

    • Where is the user clicking on the link and what module. Where is the module hosted?
    • Which HR portal. Is the user logged in (SSO)?
    • Which system should mark as complete?
    • What is the interaction/relationship between the two systems? Why are they bother involved?
    • Where is the content hosted?

I still think this is beyond the scope of the Articulate forums, unless the LMS is Reach. If so, it would be better to talk directly with Articulate support and explain what you are trying to achieve.

      Hi SamHill,

Its a Conflict of Interest course, and we need to make users declare the conflicts by filling out a form. If we incorporate the form in the story file itself, we can't export the users' response (can we, is there a way to do that?). We tried providing a link to the form within the storyline course, but users aren't complying. They're not actually going and filling out the form.

So now we are looking for a way to pause progress in the storyline course, until the course receives some sort of token from the HRMS that the user has completed the form. Of course the HRMS would need to be linked to the LMS. We're trying to understand if anyone has done this sort of thing before, is it possible - in an SSO situation or any other set-up.

To answer your specific questions -

      • Where is the user clicking on the link and what module. Where is the module hosted? - The link is provided in the Storyline course. Its a course (module) on CoI. The module is hosted on an LMS.
      • Which HR portal. Is the user logged in (SSO)? - Yes.
      • Which system should mark as complete? - We can have the HRMS team send the LMS a token, but is it possible to have the Storyline course wait for and read an external token and progress the course forward based on the value.
      • What is the interaction/relationship between the two systems? Why are they bother involved?
      • Where is the content hosted? - On an LMS, are you asking something specific that I'm not getting?

      Really appreciate your help!
