Prevent Autoplay of Storyline Slides inside of Rise
I cannot figure out how to prevent storyline slides shows with audio from automatically playing when embedded in a Rise lesson. I have a Rise content page with two storyline elements embedded. The slides start auto advancing and the audio plays for both lectures at the same time.
To prevent this I have tried:
- Adding a cover photo to each storyline.
- Disabling the advance to next slide unless the user clicks (it's still advancing anyways).
There is no audio on the first slide. Audio starts playing on slide two.
Any ideas?

I appreciate that what you do is hard. But I have a course with about six storyline blocks. Most of the storyline blocks I add to Rise DO NOT play automatically. I have two in the course that do. What you're suggesting means I have to go to all the storyline blocks in a course and add a play button. Please fix this to prevent user from having to perform extra work AFTER a course is completed. Perhaps a toggle in Rise that prevents or allows a storyline block to play.
Hi RickS,
I understand that you’re looking for a way to control directly in Rise whether a Storyline block starts automatically, rather than having to go back into each Storyline project and add a play button after your course is already complete. I can see how having that control in Rise could help streamline how you manage multiple Storyline blocks in a course.
I'd love to learn a bit more:
- How often are you building Rise courses that include multiple Storyline blocks like this?
- Would you want that autoplay control for each Storyline block individually, or would a course-level setting work better for your workflow?
- What determines when you want a Storyline block to start automatically versus waiting for the learner to start it?
I appreciate you sharing the example and the idea of a toggle. That context helps us better understand the workflow you’re trying to simplify.

Did you move your reply to a two year old post to show that an answer to my concern should have been addressed long ago and that expecting help with this concern is futile?
Hi Lenora, and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community!✨
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your Storyline blocks auto-playing within a Rise lesson. These blocks automatically play by default, but you can prevent this!
If the first slide doesn't have audio or video:
- Add a trigger on the first slide to pause the timeline when the slide's timeline starts.
- Insert a button or choose from Content Library 360 icons.
- Add a trigger to resume the slide's timeline when the user clicks the button or icon.
If the first slide has audio or video:
- Insert a blank slide with a play button as your first slide.
- On the new slide, insert a button or pick an icon from Content Library 360.
- Add a trigger to jump to the next slide when the user clicks the button/icon.
I hope this helps! If you need additional assistance, please let me know here or privately in a support case. We're happy to take a look at your .Story file as well!
