Reposition text-to-speech in timeline error

Hi, I have followed the process detailed here...https://community.articulate.com/articles/storyline-360-converting-text-to-speech to create a text-to-speech (TTS) voiceover for my current project.

I have an 'Accessibility' slide (in a separate slide that users can access via lightbox on any other slide) and have added buttons to switch between true/false variable that controls if the TTS plays on a slide or not when the timeline starts. By default it is set to off.

It works well (you'll need to refresh the slide if you've switched on/off or vice versa).

My issue is when I add my trigger: 'When timeline start on this slide, play audio Text-to-Speech 1, if Voiceover(voiceover is the name of my variable) = value True' the waveform that displays in the timeline changes to a speaker icon and appears as an MP3 file, and I cannot then re-position it to an appropriate time on the timeline. OK if you want the TTS to play from the start of the timeline, but when you have more than 1 TTS they need repositioning otherwise the both play at the same time!

Any help gratefully received.

  • Hi, Lewis.

Thank you for opening a support case! I see you're working with Cleo, so you're in great hands!

Please reach out through the case if you have additional questions.

  • Hi, I'm having the same problem.

Whenever I add triggers with "audioplay" variables, my text-to-speech voice overs convert into mp3 files (all at the beginning of the timeline), that are impossible to reposition.

Is there a way to fix it? (other than redoing in vain all text-to-speech voice overs).
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi again,
I also had this problem bugging me in previous projects but never found an answer.
By reading some posts, the only solution I came out with is to place cue points in the timeline and add triggers to have the mp3 voice overs played when the timeline reaches them.
Maybe this thread is too old but I still would like to know whether a solution exists to avoid TTS converting into mp3?
    Thanks in advance.

      Hi Marie,

      Thanks for reaching out!

Storyline 360's text-to-speech feature inserts the audio files as MP3s by default, so there is no conversion that happens when triggers are associated with them.

Certain triggers, like this one will automatically change the appearance of the audio file to cover the entire timeline:

With that being said, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a look at your text-to-speech files to see how they are currently configured? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

  • Hi Joe,
Thank you for your detailed answer !
Now I understand better how it works.
I have opened a support case and attached an extract of my project : so to know if there's a way to re position the TTS/audio files at any point in the timeline despite the use of certain triggers.
