Screen reader NVDA and layer problems
Is anyone else having problems with screen readers (NVDA) and slide layers? I have the following problems that are consistently intermittent across many courses:
- On showing a layer (hide other slide layers and prevent user clicking on base layer enabled) The screen reader will sometimes jump past the heading to read a small section of the layer body text before jumping back to to the heading.
- When a layer is closed, the reader will sometimes jump backwards to read a small section of base layer text before reading the visited state of the button that launched the layer. If you open and close the layer several times in a row, this may or may not happen or the next point may happen. It's intermittent.
- Same as above but it sometimes reads 'unknown' before reading the visited state of the button
- When closing a layer that has been launched from another layer, it will resume reading in the correct place on the parent layer but then when you close the parent layer, it will jump past the end of the slide focus order on the base layer. If you do not open the child layer, it resumes reading in the correct place on the base layer (with the exception of the above problems)
This is happening in the most recent 3 versions of Storyline but I haven't used Storyline between September 2023 and mid February this year so I'm not sure at what point/version this started happening.
Hi Vic,
Thanks for reaching out! I see you've also connected with my teammate, Johnrey in a support case, who is running tests with your Storyline file. Let's continue the conversation in your support case to keep all the information in one place, but I'm happy to assist further as needed!
