Screencast Video Is Fully Clickable – Need to Restrict Interaction to Specific Area
- 29 days ago
I'd overlaying a shape with 1% opacity, then placing the hotspot on top of that shape.
Thanks, Chris — that was really helpful 😀
I’ve overlaid a rectangle shape on row 2 of the Timeline, formatted with No Fill and No Border instead of using opacity, as you suggested. The clickable hotspot is placed on row 1, and during testing, the slide behaves as expected: clicking outside the hotspot doesn’t trigger any action.
However, I’ve noticed that the click icon still appears when hovering over the video, even though it’s not actually clickable outside the hotspot. It might be a minor UX issue, but I’d love to know if there’s a way to suppress that cursor behavior.
Also, I’ve spotted a thin black border at the top of the screencast that I can’t seem to remove or hide. I’ve checked formatting options and timeline layers but haven’t found the source. Any ideas?
Thanks again for your guidance!
MeeraLynn-UK : The shape must have a SOLID fill to prevent clicking through it with a mouse. Just set the transparency to 100%. That makes it like glass: you can see through it, but you can't reach through it.
However, the video would still be accessible via keyboard. See my other reply for details.

Following the advice, I’ve changed the shape to a solid colour with 100% transparency and positioned it in the top row of the Timeline. I’ve also adjusted the Timing/Duration so that the solid colour layer and the clickable hotspots don’t overlap.
Since the screencast only reveals the clickable area towards the end of the video, I've realised that there’s no benefit in allowing revisiting users to click early—especially when the clickable object isn’t visible until later. So in this case, I’ve kept all functionality on a single layer and simply staggered the elements on the Timeline.
It’s working well now. Thanks again!
