Screenreader Text Entry
Hi all!
Does anyone know how you get a screenreader to read text from a text variable?
I have a client that wants someone using a screenreader to hear when a variable number changes. (You click an up or down arrow to change the value.)
I know I could do this with states, but if I could make this work it'd save me a ton of time.
Thanks for anyone's input!

Hi TwoFirstDesigns!
Happy to help!
With a sample Storyline course, including a text variable, I tested the behavior on my end with the NVDA screen reader. First, I used the Down Arrow key to move focus to my text entry field, then I used the Enter key to switch focus to the cursor. Upon typing different numbers, NVDA announced each one as expected. When moving to my next slide, the Reference Variable (#4) was dictated correctly as well.
- Here's a quick screen recording of how it sounds!
I've also attached a copy of the sample file I used for my testing.
Do you mind sharing which screen reader you are working with, as well as a copy of your .story file so we can take a look at your design? Feel free to upload that here in the discussion or privately through a support case.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Steven,
Submitting a case so you can see what I mean with the arrows. Thanks so much!
