Storyline Quiz timer not working properly when using "next" button

Hello everybody!

I'm having trouble with Storyline quiz timer if used the "next" button instead "submit" button on quiz questions.

It stop counting time on feedback layers when used "next" button.

Here's a video troubleshooting this: https://youtu.be/V0jMvVpxEgs

It works just fine using "submit" button.

Is there a workaround on this or the only option is using "submit" button?

I'll attach the .story file on this topic

    Hi Sabrina,

I will not speculate about whether this is a Storyline bug or not. I would not use the player default button for this timed interaction simply because this button unlike other custom buttons may have some other built-in functionality that intentionally breaks the quiz timer. I know we can use this button to show other layers or similar but for an unknown reason it won't work in combination with the quiz timer in a way intended. You don't have to use the default submit button either. You can create a custom button that would visually appear same as a next button (attached photo). In this case, the quiz timer will not stop counting on feedback layers (attached video). The only downside of this solution is that you would have to place a custom button on each question slide, and then  replace the current next button with your new custom button in all triggers. I attached a new version of your .story file for you to check it out.

      Hi Nedim,

      Thank you for your reply!

Your suggestion solves the problem. The issue is adding the custom next button to every slide (it's passed a thousand slides). I'll wait for support response and if needed I'll use your workaround.

      Thanks again!

Great idea to open a case, Sabrina! I see that my teammate Darrell has picked it up; you're in good hands! Please expect an email response from him shortly.

Let's continue the conversation in your support case, but I'm happy to assist further as needed!

    Dear Articulate members,

Could you share what was the solution provided by the articulate team?

My client has the same issue, but it would be a great loss of time to go through all slides to add custom buttons. Also, the default buttons and timer provided by the authoring tool shouldn't have trouble working with eachother.

    Thanks for your reply !

      Hi Stéphanie,

      Happy to chime in!

Sabrina's case that is mentioned here was tagged as a possible bug where a quiz slide timer stops when using the next button to show another layer. I'll be happy to take a look at your project file to confirm if you are affected by this known issue so we can notify you as soon as a fix is released.

Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case for testing? We'll delete it when we're done!

      Hi Stéphanie,

If you don't mind, could you please share how you handled this issue?

I'm revisiting this situation and looking for solutions until the Articulate Team fixes the bug in a new official version.

    Hi Sabrina,

We kept the native submit button only. There are over 200 questions, cannot afford to use a custom one. I hope the team will fix the bug anyways. Good luck with your project!
