Storyline360 - Publish: Video

Ah, I see what’s happening — and you’re actually on the right track already and this should work.

When you publish a Storyline 360 project to video format (MP4), Storyline re-encodes everything, including your inserted videos, unless you tell it not to.
So when you add the _NOPROCESS_ suffix to your video filenames is the right thing to do (it's telling Storyline not to re-encode this video, but to leave it alone. The thing is, even with _NOPROCESS_, when publishing the whole course to video, Storyline still compresses the final output. That’s why your crisp MP4s might still end up looking pretty poor.

Try one of these, they have helped me in the past:

1. Check your Video Properties:
   When inserting your MP4s, right-click on the video → Video Tools Options → Compression → Select None.
   (Even if you added _NOPROCESS_, it’s good to double-confirm.)
2. Player Settings:
   If you are using a modern player, it should preserve quality better than the classic player.
   Under Player → Other → Browser Settings, make sure you're using Lock player at optimal size or Scale player to fill browser window carefully.
   (Scaling improperly can stretch videos = blurry.)
3. Publish Settings:
   In Publish → Video:
   • Set Video Quality to Very High (you already did).
   • Set Dimensions to match your course design exactly.
     (If you designed at 1280x720, publish at 1280x720. If you upscale, Storyline re-encodes = loss.)
4. Source Video Quality:
   Ensure your original MP4s are already optimized for high quality, and encoded with high bitrate (ideally >8 Mbps for 720p, >16 Mbps for 1080p).
