Tabs disappear after I delete a slide?
Hello,
I'm working on a project where it makes sense for me to copy and paste slides from one module to a different one frequently. The main reason is that I changed a lot of things on the layout for one of the modules and want to transfer that over to the other ones instead of redoing all of the slides, so I copy the slides from my "master" module and paste them on the module I'm working on. Then, when I delete the original slide from the module I'm working on, the tab open on the menu bar from my "master" module gets deleted as well. It's really frustrating to have to go back to Story View and find the next slide I need to copy over instead of being able to just click over to the next tab, especially with the number of slides I'm using.
Does anyone have a solution to this? Let me know if I'm not making sense - it's a weird problem to explain.
Thanks!

Totally agree Rachelle. It is frustrating.
LeslieMcKerchie Looking back over this old thread, I am seeing your screen recording from 4 years ago for the first time. Your recording doesn't quite capture the flow that causes the frustration. Or, at least, it doesn't reflect my particular experience.
If I have a module that has 5 sections, I like to open one slide from each section so that I now have 5 tabs across the top. That way I can move quickly from section to section by clicking the relevant tab. Then within a section, I use the vertical slide panel at the left to move from slide to slide.
Here's the problem... If I delete any slide in a section, one of the tabs at the top closes. So if I have my tidy little horizontal bar with tabs for my 5 sections for quick movement between sections, one of the tabs gets involuntarily closed and now I have only 4 tabs open and my quick navigation between sections scheme is no longer quick. I have to rebuild that 5 tab structure again so that I can bounce around between sections.
The recording below demonstrates what I'm talking about. I THINK this is what many (most) users have been complaining about.
I notice that near the end I meant to change one of the tabs to Section 3 but accidentally left it open to section 4. That was operator error, not a Storyline issue. - RachelleFoxCommunity Member
I appreciate the workaround that ChrisCole posted, but it's a PITA to have to switch to Story view, find the slide in that view, and delete the slide there just to avoid having my furthest-right tab close simply because I deleted a slide in the active (and unrelated) tab.
It takes exactly the same amount of time and headache as deleting the slide in slide view and then going into Story view to find the item that was on the tab that closed and reopen it.
This is a ridiculous bug that should have been solved by now.

I know this thread is quite old, but sharing the workaround for anyone showing up late to the party...
If you switch to STORYVIEW and delete the slide from there, your tabs remain intact at the top of the edit window. - AdamBernard-5f9Community Member
I was so looking forward to seeing a solution from a post 9 years old... but looks like its still happening... i wonder if any of those people trying to find an answer found it anywhere else yet?
Leslie, you are deleting slides from one scene... all 1.1, 1.2, etc. Try having slides from 1.2 and 2.2 open. then see if it behaves differently. this is what i am experiencing. Very frustrating!
I appreciate the additional information and context, François.
I am unable to replicate the issue using the latest version of Storyline 3, Build 3.15.26825.0.
I created a simple course to demonstrate what I'm seeing:
If anyone can share the steps to replicate the issue, I'd be happy to take another look.

Just confirming this bug still exists in SL3 version 13.3.13.26122.0.
Hi François,
This discussion is quite a bit older, and I don't see a bug report filed for this issue in Storyline 3. With that in mind, I'd like to understand a bit more about the problem that you're specifically running into. You're welcome to share those details here with us in the Community or connect directly with our Support Engineers.
Do let us know if you connect with Support so that we can keep this discussion linked and updated with any news!

Hi Ashley,
I appreciate you writing out to me on this issue. However, the engineers haven't bothered solving it for 7 years. So, I'm not going to bother detailing the issue which has already been explained in detail within that thread.
I wrote the comment for other forum users to know the issue still exists. Sorry, I don't mean to sound cold or rude. It's just the bug isn't that important. Just a little annoying for the user.
Have a great day,

Hi Rekha!
I'm happy to help!
Here are a few questions to get us started:
- Which version of Storyline 3 are you using? We are now on (Build 3.9.21069.0).
- Do you have a screen recording to show us what is happening on your end?

Hi,
I'd like to know how this issue was fixed as I am facing the same issue in SL3. I see that the conversation is 3 years old and assuming there's a fix now. Please help.
Thanks Leah for reaching out here and I do see that this is something our team is aware of and still investigating.

Hi there,
I'd like to add my voice (and vote) to getting this bothersome bug fixed. I too am doing a lot of copy/pasting and deleting of slides for my current project. My tabs kept disappearing (even though that slide wasn't deleted) and it was starting to really bug me to have to go back to story view each time and find my slide again in the project. Would love to see this fixed. I'm on update 10.
Thanks!
Leah
