Text Entry Questions

Is there a way to add a "wildcard" to a text entry so that as long as part of the entry is correct, it will accept the answer regardless of the rest of the typed in answer?  For example, if I wanted ...

Hi Jonathan, 

We're looking to do some near miss type responses for our text entry free form answers. I took a look at your sample course and I think it might do what we need. Can you expand on the javascript and how you implemented it?
