Using variables as state names

I'm building a bar graph as the last slide in a competency assessment. There are 4 possible states for each bar (1 to 4) and their state is set dependent on the calculated result of a each category of questions (e.g. if result of category 1 is 2, I set the state of the category 1 bar to state 2). This currently means I have to create 4 triggers per bar and I have 15 categories. It would be way easier to be able to take the calculated variable (which is 1 to 4) and tell Storyline to set the state of the bar accordingly (states also called 1 to 4)-> Set state of object to "variable value".
Any thoughts on making this solution more economic than 60 triggers?

  • Use sliders for the bars. When you put the calculated value into the slider variable, the slider will automatically go to that point.

You can make the slider thumbs transparent, so they won't show.

To ensure that the user can't drag the sliders, cover them with an invisible shape.
