A Blueprint for Day One and Beyond — Creating Leave Behinds that Turn Interviews Into Offers

For this week's eLearning Heroes challenge, I wanted to push beyond a polished PDF and build something that actually felt like the work I do.

The challenge prompt hit close to home — leave behinds are one of those things that can genuinely separate you from the pack after an interview, and as an instructional designer, I had no excuse not to make mine interactive.

I partnered with Claude AI to build an interactive first 90 days Blueprint — a fully paginated HTML experience designed to drop straight into a Rise 360 Code block. I described the role (a Learning Experience Designer in healthcare), shared what comes up in interviews, and we built the whole thing together in one conversation. Concept, content, structure, design, accessibility tweaks — all of it.

What made it fun was how collaborative the process felt. I wasn't just generating output — I was making real design decisions, pushing back on things, and shaping something that reflects how I actually think and work. Claude handled the code; I brought the context, the professional judgment, and the instructional design instincts.

The result covers my design process, a tailored 30/60/90 day plan, how I manage multiple projects, and the tools I bring to the table — all wrapped in a warm, accessible design we refined together right down to the contrast ratios.

It's a small example of exactly the kind of AI-assisted workflow I'd bring to a learning team: using the right tools to move faster, without sacrificing quality or intention.

Enjoy!! 😁

  • I really liked the result on Rise, in terms of the graphics (which were very pleasing) and the animation, as well as the clarity of the information flow SMcNicol .

What’s more, I was really interested in the way you described your creative process with AI. You clearly had a detailed idea of exactly what you wanted to achieve… which, it seems to me, makes the AI much more intelligent.

If one day a bearded member of the Articulate staff asks you to do a webinar to explain your approach in more detail, please do accept. It’s bound to be very interesting.
